Pursuing a PhD in Chemical Biology at the University of Virginia
May 2024 – Drew University’s Class of 2024 has graduated, so we’re taking a look at where they’re headed.
Joel Moses C’24, a biochemistry and molecular biology major, took part in a number of research opportunities during his time at Drew, including the Drew Summer Science Institute (DSSI) and the University of Virginia SRIP. He also tutored for upper-level biology and chemistry courses through Drew’s Center for Academic Excellence and was an Embedded Learning Fellow.
Where he’s headed: Moses will attend the University of Virginia and pursue a PhD in chemical biology.
On his time at Drew: “I decided to attend graduate school mostly based on the guidance I received from my mentors and professors. My earliest memories of such guidance stem from my DSSI experience with Dr. [Professor of Chemistry Adam] Cassano in 2022. My experiences in DSSI helped me realize my passion for research and prompted me to attend the University of Virginia’s Summer Research Internship Program (SRIP) in the Summer of 2023. After these programs, the professors at Drew were constantly involved with my graduate applications and ultimately helped me get where I am today.”
