“My experience at Drew has been overwhelmingly positive”
June 2024 – Transfer student Maya Samuelson C’25 started her college career at the University of Oregon. But it wasn’t a perfect fit.
When she decided to transfer, she knew she wanted to be closer to home. She also wanted small class sizes to allow for an individualized education experience.
Samuelson came to Drew as part of the Fall Forward program, which allowed students to enroll mid-semester and take classes on a part-time basis during the COVID-19 pandemic. “Even as a part-time student I felt right at home at Drew,” she said.
Upon completion of the program, she matriculated as a full-time student. “My transfer process into Drew was very easy, thanks to all the support I received from the admissions counselors and advisors,” said Samuelson.
Today, Samuelson is an English major with a concentration in communication and writing. She is an active member of the Drew community, involved in several clubs and organizations—many with leadership roles. She is currently the president of Drew’s Hillel and a founding member of SheLeads, and was an admissions counselor assistant and tour guide, to name a few.
She was recently awarded the Walter F. and Alice Gorham Foundation, Inc. Prize in Jewish Studies. “I have truly found my voice and my passions at this school and am so grateful for the opportunities that I have here,” she said. “My experience at Drew has been overwhelmingly positive. The small school environment has allowed me to flourish as a student. The professors genuinely care about their students and set their students up for success.”
“Get involved in campus life, including clubs, organizations, attending events, and making the most out of your experience,” said Samuelson, offering advice to incoming transfer students. “Also, take advantage of all of the resources and support offered on campus, such as the Center for Career Development, the Center for Academic Excellence, University Writing Center, your advisors, and more.”
“I am excited to see where I end up after college and I am confident that Drew is giving me the experience and tools needed to be successful after graduating.”
