A look at one of Drew’s seven New York Semesters
September 2024 – Experiences, opportunities, and connections define the undergraduate academic experience at Drew University. And so, every spring, a class of Drew students heads to the center of global finance as part of the one-of-a-kind New York Semester on Wall Street.
One of seven New York Semesters offered at Drew, in the Wall Street Semester, students experience finance outside of the classroom and examine economics in a real-life context.
Twice a week, students and faculty train from the Madison train station around the corner from Drew’s campus, arriving at Penn Station in the heart of New York City less than an hour later.
Once in Manhattan, students visit places like the New York Stock Exchange, J.P. Morgan, Bloomberg, and the Federal Reserve Bank of New York.
It’s not just a tour of these iconic, historic places, though. Students also meet and network with the power players of Wall Street, introducing students to different career paths, and, in many cases, making career-opening connections that lead to internships and jobs.
“The Wall Street Semester helped shape my college journey and prepared me well for graduate school and first-class jobs,” said Luis Enrique Lopez Rios C’24, now pursuing a masters in management on an MBA track at Georgetown University’s McDonough School of Business.
“The Wall Street Semester is distinguished by the strength of Drew’s alumni network, the breadth of the curriculum, and the opportunity for students to gain a once-in-a-lifetime experiences of the ins and outs of life on Wall Street,” said Karem Smith, assistant professor of economics and director or the New York Semester on Wall Street.
This truly unique program is a deeply immersive experience that promises to challenge and inspire students to dream big and work toward achieving their goals for years to come.
