Drew Theological School Offers Three Dual-Degree Programs

Students can pursue vocations in ministry and religious scholarship while earning their bachelor’s degree

October 2024 – For students seeking vocations in ministry and religious scholarship, Drew University and Drew Theological School provide students with three Dual-Degree program options designed to couple a liberal arts education with specific expertise in their areas of interest.

The Theological School’s Dual-Degree programs are interdisciplinary and allow undergraduates to choose from any of Drew’s 40+ majors. Students are able to earn both an undergraduate and advanced degree at an accelerated and flexible pace—saving time and money.

These Dual-Degree programs allow for a seamless transfer from undergraduate to graduate studies,” said Associate Dean of Academic Affairs Robert Seesengood. “Students seeking vocations in ministry and religious scholarship may start and complete their higher education journey at Drew.”

“These programs also bring the benefit of integration,” continued Seesengood. “From the undergrad courses to graduation from the Theological School, students work within the same context, with the same stellar faculty, and steeped in the program’s values and scholarly excellence.”

Included in the offering are 4+1 Dual-Degrees in Religion and Theology & Ministry. Participating students can dual enroll in four graduate courses during their junior or senior year, providing students with a significant head start toward completing their Master of Arts.

Additionally, Drew offers a 3+3 Master of Divinity Dual-Degree program. Students in the program earn their bachelor’s degree from Drew after successfully completing 32 credits in the Master of Divinity (MDiv) program, and then earn their MDiv after successfully completing all requirements in the sixth year.

“The Drew Theological School Dual-Degree programs offers the opportunity to complete your degree requirements in a timely manner without sacrificing any of the robust content available at Drew,” said Sharon Hoff C’26, T’28, who is enrolled in the Master of Divinity Dual-Degree program. “The 3 + 3 program has allowed me to streamline my education by combining the two programs together. The undergrad program has become enriched by the Theo content. I am grateful this opportunity is available.”

In all, Drew offers 20 Dual-Degree programs with Drew’s Caspersen School of Graduate Studies, Drew Theological School, and other partnering institutions, including Columbia, NYU, and Duke.
