Drew University Introduces Conflict Resolution for Clergy Course

An expansion of the popular Conflict Resolution certificate program

March 2025 – Starting in the Summer Term, Drew University will offer a new Conflict Resolution for Clergy course, designed to equip religious leaders with the skills and knowledge necessary to effectively navigate, resolve, and transform conflicts within their congregations and broader communities.

By integrating theological principles and practices from various religious traditions with practical conflict resolution strategies, participants will gain valuable insights into fostering harmony, promoting dialogue, and addressing disputes in a spiritually enriching manner. The course is designed to help clergy members develop both theoretical knowledge and practical tools to mediate conflicts, build stronger relationships, and create more inclusive and peaceful faith communities.

The course will be led by Director of the Center on Religion, Culture & Conflict Jonathan Golden, alongside a distinguished lineup of guest speakers from diverse religious traditions. These experts will share insights and real-world experiences to provide students with a broad and nuanced understanding of conflict resolution within different faith contexts.

“Of course people learn on the job, but we are offering this course that is specifically designed for clergy to navigate the inevitable conflict we all experience in our communities with greater confidence and effectiveness,” said Golden.

The course may be taken singularly, or as a part of the Conflict Resolution certificate. Additionally, it can be integrated into degree programs within Drew Theological School or Drew’s Caspersen School of Graduate Studies.

Registration for Drew’s Summer Term opened on March 17, 2025. The University is exploring opportunities to expand the course’s content further, potentially offering workshops and professional development learning modules in the future.
