Drew University Athletics to Unveil Ranger Baseball’s Lonnstrom Stadium

Honoring donors Cris and Doug Lonnstrom C’58

March 2025 – Drew University Athletics will unveil its new baseball stadium, Lonnstrom Stadium, in honor of Cris and Doug Lonnstrom C’58.

The unveiling will take place before Drew Baseball’s afternoon doubleheader against Catholic University on April 5.

In 2023, the Lonnstroms announced a generous seven-figure planned gift to Drew Athletics, the largest endowed to the school’s athletics program in school history. The gift will support the Rangers baseball program and student-athletes for generations.

“I went to Drew in 1954, unknown to the baseball team,” said Doug Lonnstrom upon announcing the gift. “If you said to me that 70 years later they were going to name the stadium after me, I could never have dreamed of such a thing. I’m overwhelmed. It’s a great honor to know that the students will benefit for years to come.”

At Drew, Lonnstrom earned a bachelor’s degree in math and played baseball for four years, including two as a team captain. His on-field performance earned him minor league contract offers from the Giants and Red Sox.

Following his time at Drew, Lonnstrom earned an MBA in economics from Siena College, where he would eventually return to teach for 47 years in the institution’s Business School, teaching more than 20,000 students in his career. At Siena, he also served as Dean of the Business School, Head of the Quantitative Business Department, and co-founded the Siena College Research Institute.

“It is wonderful to see the Lonnstrom name on our baseball stadium,” said Christa Racine, Drew’s director of athletics. “It is a fitting honor to Cris and Doug for their generosity and commitment to Drew Athletics.”
