First Presbyterian Church in Newark is known as “Old First,” the congregation that founded the city in 1666. “Gathering for God’s Glory” is based on Isaiah 43:5-7, in which the prophet repeats God’s promise to bring together the people he created for His glory. “This is WHY the Church exists! Christians are called to bring glory to God!” she says. “Jesus says God is glorified when the people of God are unified.” In the midst of a successful career in multicultural marketing communications, Patterson received a call to preach the gospel. She was the first woman ordained at Calvary Baptist Church of Morristown, NJ. She has been recognized by EBONY magazine as an Outstanding Woman in Marketing and Communications, the Morris County Branch of the NAACP with the Community Leaders Social Justice Award, and Business News NJ as one of the Top 10 Women in the State. She is the chief evangelism officer of Setting the Captives Free Ministries and the creator of “God’s Glory… Our Story,” a biblically based and culturally relevant curriculum that parallels salvation history with Black history. She is the author of Deceit, a novel about resilience after domestic violence, and A Womanist Study Guide of that novel. She is the founder of FreeHER, a non-profit organization dedicated to healing, empowering, and restoring those adversely affected by domestic violence and/or intimate partner violence.
