Jeffrey Jon Richards G’85 Publishes New Book

The PhD alum adds to his scholarly collection

September 2025 – Drew Theological School PhD alum Jeffrey Jon Richards G’85 has recently published a new book, Davidic Millennialism.

The book presents a fresh perspective of the biblical concept of the kingdom of God. In particular, it provides an alternative to the two contrasting views of the Reformed and Progressive Dispensational understanding of how to interpret the kingdom.

These two interpretations have been long contested, and Dispensationalism has undergone dramatic changes concerning the interpretation of key biblical passages, especially those pertaining to the covenants in the Old Testament. Progressive Dispensationalism is a recent reinterpretation of the classical views of both Scofield and Chafer.

Richards explores the great variance of opinions among three major positions—the Reformed, the classical, and the Progressive Dispensational. This book’s proposed new position is termed Davidic Millennialism, with an interpretation centering on the understanding of the Davidic covenant. Written for both academics and thoughtful readers, Davidic Millennialism explores how to interpret current and future events in light of God’s activity in the world.

Richards also earned his ThD from Marburg University and his ThM from Dallas Theological Seminary. He has done post-doctoral work at Oxford University, Marburg University, and Tübingen University. An ordained Presbyterian minister, he has taught at the University of North Carolina—Charlotte, Peking University in Beijing, and several seminaries. He is also president of Global Teaching and Preaching, an international ministry focusing on ministry in the Yucatan, Eastern Europe, and several African countries.

Richards has authored several books, including Twenty-One Great Voices, War Time Preaching and Teaching, The Promise of Dawn, and Contemporary Christian Option of the World’s End.
