Drew is launching a new college within the University which will reimagine the traditional higher education structure and support students over the course of a lifetime who want to thrive in their personal, professional, and civic lives.

Drew’s Evolution

  • In 1867, Drew was founded as a seminary, welcoming its first class of 12 students seeking an innovative form of religious education.

  • In 1928, Drew created the College of Liberal Arts to offer undergraduate degrees and lean into the liberal arts.

  • In 1955, Drew began offering graduate degrees in the arts and sciences with the addition of the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies.

  • In 1989, the CLA was at the forefront of the technological era and became the first school in the country to offer all students a laptop.

  • Today, Drew is continuing its legacy of not only adapting to the changing landscape of higher education, but leading the way with the creation of a new college.

In spring 2026, an innovative cohort of 12-15 current students with an interest in the new college’s curriculum will devote half of their course schedule to a program that will fast-track their ability to design their own programs, focus on their individual passions, and learn to tackle real-world problems in real time. Over the next three years, the new college will continue to deliver a series of educational prototypes designed alongside students using emerging technologies to further evolve the college based on student feedback.

The new college will help Drew find a way to offer a new learning model to a growing population that’s seeking it, while maintaining our core academic offerings for the students we know.

The path may look different, but the result remains the same: a sought-after credential from Drew University, with skills and experiences that translate to the real world and prepare students for professional and personal success.
