Higgins began working at SNL while still studying at Drew. As a senior, she took part in the New York Semester on Communications & Media where she and the class met with employees and alums at AE Network, FanDuel, and Blockchains, and visited sites like Grand Central, print shops, the Oculus, and various art galleries.

“It was a lot, working and taking classes, but very fun,” said Higgins. “I think working at SNL and doing the New York Semester was a great combination. It was challenging at times, but Professor (Jeremy) Blatter was great at helping me balance everything. It definitely prepared me to live in the city before I actually did.”

In addition to her media and communications major, Higgins also minored in classics, which provided its own rewards.

“Learning classics has been one of the greatest joys of my life. It’s so applicable to everything,” said Higgins, who thinks of her classes with Professor John Lenz with fondness.

“Drew was great at fostering relationships between students and professors. Professors Blatter and Lenz made my time at Drew great. They were always there to discuss papers, schedule classes, and support me when I started at SNL.”

Higgins has now been at SNL for four years. In her current dual roles as the show’s live digital social media editor and post production department assistant, Higgins does “everything and anything.”

“SNL being what it is, no two days are the same,” said Higgins.

As if holding several positions with one of the most famous television shows in history just four years into a career wasn’t enough, Higgins can also add “Emmy winner” to her resume.

In 2025, Higgins was an assistant editor on the Saturday Night Live 50th Anniversary Special staff that won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Picture Editing for Variety Programming.

“The Emmy was a great honor and surprise,” said Higgins. “SNL isn’t just one person, it’s a well-oiled machine with the best in the business. Everyone at the show is passionate and the hardest working people I have ever met. Like Lorne Michaels says, ‘We don’t go on because we are ready, we go on because it’s 11:30.’ SNL is one of the craziest and most rewarding rides I have been on. I feel so lucky to be able to work there.”
