Reflection on your time at Drew: My time at Drew helped me grow academically and personally. As an international student, I learned a lot from the people, opportunities, and experiences I had here.

Shoutouts: A special shoutout to Professor Carter, who has been an important mentor throughout my time at Drew. He was my advisor even before I arrived on campus, continued as my advisor during my first year, later became a member of my thesis committee, and has always been incredibly supportive through the many classes I took with him. His guidance played a major role in my academic journey at Drew.

Yeongrok Choi

Degree: Master of Divinity, United Methodist Ministry

Hometown: Uijeongbu, Republic of Korea

Post-graduation plans: I will be attending Union Theological Seminary in New York City to pursue a Master of Sacred Theology (STM), a post-master’s degree. I also plan to continue serving the church and navigating the ordination process to become an ordained elder within the Greater New Jersey Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church.

Clubs/campus involvement: During my time at Drew, I have been deeply committed to serving the community in various capacities. I am proud to have been a “voice of Drew Theological School” as a Chapel Musician, leading worship music every week for three years. I also enjoyed connecting with and assisting my peers as a student staff member at the library. Additionally, I had the privilege of serving my fellow Korean students as the Secretary of the Korean Caucus (2023) and fostering community engagement as the Events Coordinator for the Theological Student Association (2024).

Advice for Drew Students: “No one stands alone, We’ll stand side by side. Draw the circle, draw the circle wide!” — Lyrics from “Draw the Circle” by Mark A. Miller.

Achievements at Drew: I am incredibly grateful to have received several honors during my academic journey, including the Lester Berenbroick Award in Church Music in 2024, followed by the George R. Warren Memorial Award in New Testament Scholarship and the Alfred B. Haas Award in Worship and Liturgy in 2026. However, the most profound honor of my time here is being selected as the Student Representative Speaker for the upcoming 2026 Commencement!

Reflection on your time at Drew: I still vividly remember the day I arrived in the U.S. in the winter of 2023, after a 14-hour flight from Korea. It is hard to believe that three and a half years have passed and it is already time to leave. Drew has been a warm home to me. Even when the painful news of the world surrounded me like a biting winter wind, Drew always offered me a sense of safety and peace. I will cherish these memories with a grateful heart forever. Thank you.

Shoutout: I would like to express my deepest gratitude to all the professors of the Theological School who embraced me with such warmth. In particular, I remember with love and thanks the late Dean Tanya Linn Bennett.

I also want to give a special shoutout to my supervisor at the Drew Library, Emily La Jeunesse (Head of Access Services). Thank you for everything!

Madelyn Morgan

Major: Biology

Hometown: Hackettstown, New Jersey

Post graduation plans: I will be attending Lincoln Memorial College of Dental Medicine in Knoxville, Tennessee! Here I will pursue my Doctorate of Dental Medicine degree.

Clubs/Sports: Throughout my time at Drew, I have been a peer tutor in biology and statistics courses, the Historian of the Tri-Beta Biological Honor Society and conducted research in Dr. Fazen’s biochemistry lab.

Advice for future Drew students: Take advantage of new opportunities. Being involved in many things exposes you to so many different types of people and helps foster such a great sense of community. Drew has a lot to offer, so make the most of your experience!

Reflection on your time at Drew: My favorite part about Drew was the relationships I made with my peers. Especially in the biology major, I was taking classes with the same group of students since freshman year. Having such great friends especially through challenging courses helped immensely. It was so rewarding to see each other grow throughout our four years at Drew.

Shoutouts: I would love to thank Dr. Miller, Dr. Choquette and Professor Hernon for being such great professors and mentors throughout my time at Drew. Their courses helped solidify my love for biology and a career in medicine. Additionally, Dr. Fazen’s Biochemistry lab strengthened my scientific and laboratory skills. Participating in a collaborative research environment was an invaluable experience that taught me skills I will continue to carry with me throughout my career in dentistry.
