- Lactation Space Guidelines
Drew University students, faculty, staff, or visitors, who are nursing or lactating may request to use a lactation space to express milk while on campus. A designated lactation space is located in Health Services and can be utilized during business hours. For students in need of a lactation space outside of University business hours, a designated lactation space is available in the Zen Den located in Townhouse #4.
Barring an emergency situation, all scheduling requests for use of a lactation space should be made 24 hours in advance through the Title IX webpage by clicking on “Lactation Space Request Form”, which is located under the Pregnancy & Related Conditions tab. Once the request is received and processed, an email will be sent from the Title IX Office confirming the date, time and location of the reservation, as well as instructions regarding how to access the space. On the confirmed date and time, the person requesting the space will report to either:
- Health Services (Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM)
- Located in the Holloway Annex, health@drew.edu, (973) 408-3414
- Zen Den (outside of regular business hours)
- Located in Townhouse #4, counseling@drew.edu, (973) 408-3398
Please note: Requests must be made 24 hours in advance. Immediate requests for use of the Zen Den outside of regular business hours will be denied and an alternative space may not be available.
Reservation changes or cancellations should be made as soon as possible by contacting the Title IX Office at titleixofficer@drew.edu.
The lactation space is to be used solely for the purpose of expressing and collecting breast milk. It is not to be used for studying, sleeping, or any other purpose unrelated to lactation.
For health and safety reasons, a refrigerator is not provided in the lactation space. Because the lactation space may be used by more than one person during the day, it is not permissible to store anything, including breast milk or equipment, in the space.
There is a sign outside of the lactation space to denote that the lactation space is either “In Use” or “Not In Use”. Please change the sign when you enter and leave the space appropriately, and lock the door while in use to assist with safeguarding this private space for yourself and others.
Those using a lactation space are expected to clean up after themselves (wipe down the area) and remove all personal belongings. Disinfectant wipes are provided but are not intended to be used to clean personal equipment. If wipes are not available, please notify the Director of Health Services, or designee, and/or the Title IX Office at titleixofficer@drew.edu.
If you encounter any issues or concerns with the lactation space, please contact the Title IX Coordinator at titleixofficer@drew.edu or (973) 408-3390.
