Drew Choirs Sing Songs About Mary of Nazareth

Concert draws from the work of Rachmaninoff, Bach and Billy Joel.

December 2018 – Drew University’s Chorale and Choral Union sang songs about the religious figure Mary.

The concert, “Her Story,” featured compositions from Arvo Pärt, Ola Gjeilo, Daniel Elder and Sergei Rachmaninoff and lullabies from Jason Robert Brown, Billy Joel and Ryan Murphy. The choirs, backed by a professional chamber orchestra, also performed J.S. Bach’s “Magnificat in D Major.”

The two mixed-voice ensembles, led by Interim Director of Choral & Vocal Studies Matthew Webb, feature undergraduates, graduate students and alumni. The Choral Union also includes faculty, staffers and local residents.
