Madison earns top spot in New Jersey from home security company
October 2020 – Home security company SafeWise has named Drew University’s hometown as the third safest college town in the United States, and the safest college town in New Jersey.
In the 2020 rankings, Madison is one of only two towns in New Jersey to make the list. This year, Madison vaulted above Princeton, now ranked ninth in the nation, which had previously held the country’s top spot.
In the 2020 rankings, the company based its rankings entirely on the fewest reported crimes in each town per 1,000 residents using FBI crime statistics over the last several years and United States Census population data.
This is not the first time Madison has received praise, as it is also New Jersey Monthly‘s reigning annual Best Place to Live, having topped the annual list in 2019.
The publication noted the town’s desirable ambiance, complete with “grassy yards, neighborhood barbecues, a downtown ice cream parlor, a weekly farmers’ market, youth soccer, bike paths and a commuter-rail station,” in addition to low crime rates and great schools.
