Library Communications Policy

  1. Policy Statement
    1. Email is the primary form of business communication regarding library accounts. Library users are responsible for checking their email accounts for Library notices and responding to them promptly to avoid fines and penalties.  
    2. For current students, faculty, and staff, the library will send notices to the officially assigned Drew University email (@drew.edu) account. 
    3. For community patrons or visiting researchers who do not have a Drew University account, the library will use the email address associated with the borrower’s library account. 
    4. The library may also contact account holders by telephone, using university directory phone numbers for faculty, staff, and students. For community patrons or visiting researchers, the library will use the email address associated with the borrower’s library account. 
  2. Purpose
    1. This policy and associated procedures inform library users of their responsibility to check their university assigned e-mail and/or phone number on record for communications from the library.
  3. Audience
    1. All members of the Drew community; community borrowers and visiting researchers. 
  4. Procedures
    1. For current students, faculty, and staff, the library will send notices only to the officially assigned Drew University email (@drew.edu) account. 
    2. For community patrons or visiting researchers who do not have a Drew University account, the library will use the email address associated with the borrower’s library account. All newly created accounts will be required to include an email address. Existing patrons who do not have an email on file will receive any necessary communications by mail, but are encouraged to contact us to update their account with a current email address.
    3. The library may also contact account holders by telephone, using university directory phone numbers for faculty, staff, and students. For community patrons or visiting researchers, the library will use the email address associated with the borrower’s library account. 
  5. Consequences of Violating this Policy
    1. Non-compliance with this University policy may result in fines.
