August 2023 – Over a period of four days, Drew University’s historic first-year undergraduate class and a University record number of transfer students got acclimated to their new surroundings.
Starting with Move-In Day, new students and their families got moved in and settled into their dorms—with more than a little help from the orientation crew.
Students made fast friends and got acclimated to life at Drew through late-night food in The Commons; feasting and mingling outside first-year dorms, at the Welcome BBQ, and RecFest; taking in “Class Zero” of their first-year seminars (DSEMs); and touring downtown Madison.
President Hilary Link experienced her first Drew new student orientation and personally welcomed the throngs of cars packed to the brim with new students, parents, and belongings. President Link took part throughout the weekend’s activities and led the traditional Opening of School Ceremony. Chair and Professor of Spanish and Director of First-Year Experience Raul Rosales, Provost Jessica Lakin, and Vice President of Enrollment Management and Campus Life Frank Merckx also addressed the 400-plus new students.
