Students choose their experience to support vocational goals
April 2022 – Drew Theological School has expanded its Doctor of Ministry (DMin) program to offer additional specializations within the Courageous Leadership in a Changing Culture cohort. These concentrations support students’ vocational goals and respond to the great theological and ethical challenges of our day.
Drew’s popular Courageous Leadership in a Changing Culture DMin cohort is designed to prepare faith leaders to confront the challenges of our ever-changing landscape and become better equipped to respond with innovative and courageous leadership that will inspire and foster change in their communities and beyond.
Now, Drew DMin students can deepen their degree focus by opting for any of the four additional specializations:
- Women’s Religious Leadership
This unique specialization deepens women’s considerable gifts for leadership, engaging women-centered theories, wisdom, and practices, as well as Drew’s long tradition of feminist, womanist, and LGBTQ theology and theory. - Church After Pandemic
Emerging from a global pandemic, congregational leaders are finding new modes for their mission in the world. This specialization empowers courageous leaders interested in the tools of technology, the frameworks of finance, and expansive expressions of ecclesiology to journey together as we look for what “the church” needs to be in this moment. - Social Impact
This specialization engages courageous leaders who are committed to changing society’s institutions—corporations, government, and church—to more effectively contribute to the common good in their communities and to prophetically transform systems from a faith-based perspective. - Faith, Health, and Social Equity
This specialization dares to ask who and what is driving health disparity, and what kind of courageous leadership is needed to bring justice and wholeness in vulnerable communities and across societies.
“Religious leaders in our congregations and in the public square have been inundated with competing demands for innovation and a longing for continuity over the last two years,” said Director of Doctoral Students Meredith Hoxie Schol. “The DMin program at Drew builds upon our long-standing commitment to developing courageous leaders, connecting them with peer learning, and to the exceptional faculty at Drew, as they wrestle with these important questions in their practice of ministry.”

Returning student Sarah Welch-Pomerantz T’10,’22 found herself drawn to Drew to pursue her Master of Divinity, and again when she was ready to earn a DMin.
“I had been toying with the idea of obtaining a Doctor in Ministry and chose to go to Drew to get information and interview for the program. As soon as I stepped back onto campus, I knew I would be coming back to Drew. There is something about being at Drew that both inspires and strengthens me. My cohort is incredible; the experience has been extraordinary.”
The Theological School will also offer a Bible, Theology, and Leadership in the Korean Context DMin cohort in fall 2022—which will gather in-person for the first time in two years. Designed for Korean-speaking students in Korean and Korean-American contexts, the reflective and innovative cohort will focus on inward and outward examinations of effective practices of ministry in Korean contexts.
