Where They’re Going: Anna Lynn Smith C’22

“Drew has given me so many opportunities, both academically and socially, and I cannot thank the faculty, staff, and friends I’ve met along the way at Drew enough for the impact they’ve had on me!”

May 2022 – We’re taking a look at where some of the Drew University College of Liberal Arts Class of 2022 is heading.

Anna Lynn Smith C’22

Political science and public health double major

Women’s rugby team, Student Government senator and cabinet member, Orientation Committee leader

Where she’s going

Smith accepted a position with Mission for Arizona, the Arizona Democratic Party’s coordinated campaign, as a field organizer. Having graduated a semester early in December 2021, she has already started working in Tucson.

How she got there

“I was able to find a passion for campaign work thanks to Professor Phil Mundo, [professor of political science and environmental studies and sustainability (ESSS) and director of the ESSS program], and the Governor Kean Internship Scholarship that I received in the summer of 2020. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic interfering with many of the internship plans I made, I was able to get an internship with my local congressional representative over the summer and eventually accepted a full-time field organizer position in the fall while still being a full-time student at Drew.

“Professor Mundo was extremely supportive of this effort, both during the scholarship and afterwards, and without him I am not sure I would have taken this leap. This experience was invaluable for a student to gain, especially so far ahead of graduation, and it has certainly catapulted me into such exciting experiences that I am gaining now.”

Smith’s Drew experience

“Drew has given me so many opportunities, both academically and socially, and I cannot thank the faculty, staff, and friends I’ve met along the way at Drew enough for the impact they’ve had on me! From a Halloween tornado sophomore year, to a global pandemic, and graduating a semester early despite it all, my time at Drew has been an incredible experience. I cannot wait to walk on May 14th, but it will certainly be bittersweet!”
