Drew’s Caspersen School of Graduate Studies Kicks Off the Academic Year

Strong, diversified student enrollment among programs

September 2023 – Drew University’s Caspersen School of Graduate Studies has commenced the fall semester and welcomed 75 new students across the seven program areas.

Many programs offer online solutions, affording students the opportunity to study at Drew throughout the U.S. and the world. In all, the incoming class represents eight states and 14 countries. Residency options are also available to students.

“We are pleased to welcome an incoming class with a global presence,” said Executive Director of Graduate Admissions Kevin D. Miller. “Caspersen’s diverse and distinctive academic offering is generating interest with both students from the commutable tri-state area, to students joining us either online or on-campus from across the country and the world.”

The school offers master’s programs in Art & Letters, Data Science, Finance, History & Culture, Medical & Health Humanities, and Teacher Education. Doctoral degrees are offered in Arts & Letters and Medical & Health Humanities.

In addition, several certificate programs are available, including two newly-launched programs.

The Teaching Writing certificate is designed to provide teachers of all levels with focused study in the pedagogy of teaching writing. “We invite educators of all levels to deepen their understanding of the role of writing in our lives and to develop their knowledge and skills in teaching writing to others,” said Professor of Teacher Education and Program Director Kristen Turner.

The Contemplative Professional Certificate program, part of the Medical & Health Humanities offering, was developed to address the growing number of healthcare professionals who experience mental, moral, and physical stress, often resulting in compassion fatigue and burnout.

All certificate programs can be applied to or taken in conjunction with a degree program.

New and returning Master of Finance students will be able to take advantage of the brand new state-of-the-art Bloomberg Trading Room, designed to replicate a Wall Street experience complete with Bloomberg terminals, video monitors, and a live stock ticker tape.

The Arts & Letters program continues to focus on student flexibility—both in the curriculum, which fosters individuality, and in the modalities. Both the MLitt and DLitt can be completed fully online.

“The unique program offers more breadth than depth,” said Leslie Sprout, director of the Arts & Letters program and professor of music. “Professionally useful courses provide pathways for students in an array of academic and creative fields.”

Drew’s Master of Science in Data Science is a forward-thinking program that provides useful skills that transcend across industries.

“I chose Drew University because of the structure and content of its one-year accelerated program in Data Science and the gorgeous campus environment,” said Joseph Ozurumba G’23.
