Pursuing a 4+1 Teaching Dual-Degree at Drew’s Caspersen School of Graduate Studies
May 2024 – Drew University’s Class of 2024 has graduated, so we’re taking a look at where they’re headed.
Isla Ubiles C’24, G’25, a history major with a concentration in education and minor in American studies, was a club leader for both Connect With Kids and DrewFirst, and also helped to revitalize the Drew History Club.
Where she’s headed:
Ubiles is continuing her higher education journey at Drew’s Caspersen School of Graduate Studies, taking advantage of Drew’s 4+1 Teaching Dual-Degree. She will earn her bachelor’s and Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) in only five years.
“I wanted to stay at Drew because I love the campus and the environment. I’ve spent the last four years starting to work towards my masters degree while in undergrad, and I love that for just one more year, I’m going to be a fully certified teacher with a masters degree!”
On her time at Drew (so far):
“Connect With Kids was really where I found my passion. I joined as a first-year student and I have been so lucky to be part of it, and to have risen through the ranks and been the president for two years. I was lucky enough to win a Gold D award for my commitment to the organization, and that was a major honor. I was also a Writing Fellow, which allowed me to get more experience teaching and helping students before I started my fieldwork (student teaching).”
