Iota Iota Iota, the Women’s Studies Honor society was founded in 1992.  The Alpha chapter, which initiated the society, is sponsored by the Institute for Women’s Studies and Services at Metropolitan State University in Denver. The Drew Chapter, the Delta Xi Chapter, was founded in 2017. The Greek letter, iota, was selected for the name of the society to represent the three ancient goddesses Inana, Ishtar, and Isis. Inana is a Sumerian goddess of knowledge, love, and war, one of the most powerful and frequently worshipped goddesses in their pantheon.  Ishtar is a Babylonion goddess, the equivalent of Inana and associated with Venus, the morning and evening star. Isis is an Egyptian goddess associated with nature and magic, the daughter of the god of the earth and the goddess of the sky, and known as a friend of slaves and the downtrodden. The name of the society invokes the powers of these three goddesses. Iota Iota Iota strives to maintain the feminist values central to Women’s and Gender Studies and to encourage diversity, egalitarianism, academic excellence, and a supportive academic environment for all students.

Criteria for Induction:  Membership shall be open to majors or minors in women’s and gender studies with at least 12 credits in WGST including WGST 101 and a GPA of at least 3.5 in the major or minor.
