Public Health Career Outcomes

Public Health majors are trained to pursue a number of different career paths. Recent graduates of our program have gone on to graduate work in public health or the biosciences at such prestigious universities as Boston University, Brown, Columbia, George Washington University and Rutgers.  Others have gone to work for international health consulting firms, local and state health departments, private and public health care providers and client advocacy organizations.

Recent Alumnae/i

Lindsay Bevan C’16 is Development Coordinator at Spectrum 360.

Kathryna Corpuz C‘14 received her MPH from Boston Univ. 2016 and now works as an Associate with the Palladium Group in Washington, D.C.

Samantha Weckesser C’15 received her MPH from Drexel University in 2017 and is currently working as a client services associate at the Medicare Rights Center in New York City.

Distinguished Alumnae/i

Donna J. Petersen C’81 is senior associate vice president of South Florida Health and dean of the College of Public Health. She is also professor of Global Health at the University of South Florida. She has held faculty and senior leadership positions at the University of Alabama at Birmingham, School of Public Health and the University of Minnesota, School of Public Health. She received her master’s and doctoral degrees in maternal and child health from Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health. Dr. Petersen has authored numerous publications and presentations on maternal and child health, health care reform, system change and leadership and health needs assessment. Her work has been honored by the American Public Health Association, the Association of Teachers of Maternal and Child and four other professional associations.

Diana M. Sanchez C’06 is a research scientist at the N.Y.C. Department of Health and Mental Hygiene. Dr. Sanchez has authored or co-authored more than a dozen articles and presentations on various aspects of sexually transmitted diseases. She received her MPH from Yale University School of Public Health and her doctorate in epidemiology from the Gillings School of Global Public Health at the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill.

Amanda Sonnega C’84 is Associate Research Scientist with the Health and Retirement Study within the Survey Research Center, Institute for Social Research, at the University of Michigan. She received her Ph.D. in Health Psychology from the School of Hygiene and Public Health, Johns Hopkins University. She was also the recipient of a post-doctoral fellowship in Social Environment and Health from the Institute for Social Research. With thirty publications and journal articles, Dr. Sonnega’s research focuses on the social contextual determinants of work, health, and well-being within a multidisciplinary life course perspective with the goal of informing policy solutions.
