April 2019 – More than 120 students showcased academic achievements during Drew University’s annual Day of Scholars celebration.
At three different buildings, the students presented research in poster exhibits and talks, exhibited art, read creative writing and performed music, dance and theatre.
Priya Dutt C’19 was among dozens who presented research posters in the rotunda of Hall of Sciences. She examined the relationship between communication and prejudice after the topic piqued her interest in a social psychology course.
“That’s what’s great about Drew,” said Dutt, a psychology major and international relations minor. “You can find one little thing that you’re interested in and find a way to spend a whole year learning about it.”
In his research, Eric DiPietro C’19 found that Drew business majors outpace the national average of finding work in their field by 20 percent. “It definitely makes me feel more confident heading out into the job market having taken a look at the outcomes of other Drew business majors,” he said.
Also celebrating the scholars was an accomplished Alum: M. Teresa Ruiz, a N.J. state senator and president pro tempore of the Senate. In a keynote address, she praised her alma mater as her “personal ABC Afterschool Special” and lauded its 20 percent tuition reduction and commitment to inclusion, referencing its top-five ranking in race/class interaction from The Princeton Review. Drew, in turn, recognized her accomplishments by awarding her its Martin Luther King Jr. Award for Social Justice. Here are some highlights from the day.
