Becca Safi C’22
Anthropology and history double major, archaeology and museum studies double minor
President of Bridging Our Anthropology Students (BOAS); president of History Club; student assistant for Special Collections and University Archives; student assistant for anthropology department; fencing team member (2018-20).
Where she’s going
Safi will attend the University of Toronto’s MA in Near and Middle Eastern Civilizations program.
Staying busy
“The experience with Special Collections is invaluable and has helped me a lot in preparing for and securing other jobs, internships, and in my applications to graduate programs. Being a hands-on learner, it made it a lot easier and more interesting to interact with the materials and sources you’re working on. There’s so much to work with and learn about the materials that you wouldn’t otherwise get the opportunity to experience.”
A valuable internship
“In addition to my various positions on campus, I also interned in the department of African Ethnology at the American Museum of Natural History. The internship provided me invaluable experience in museum work and strengthen both my writing and research skills. The whole experience increased my desire to focus on this geographical area and in this field.”

“Drew’s close-knit community was a big help and I fostered a lot of great relationships with professors, teammates, and classmates which helped me to grow both personally and professionally, some of the professors being Maria Masucci, [associate dean for faculty affairs, CLA, and CSGS, and professor of anthropology], Allan Dawson, [associate professor and chair of anthropology], Rita Keane, [professor of art history], Candace Reilly, [manager of Special Collections], and Brian Shetler, [former head of Special Collections and University Archives and Methodist Librarian, now working at Princeton Theological Seminary].”
