How did your career plans evolve at Drew?
The RISE program at Drew is a true gem for people like me, since I never fully realized that I really wanted to be a scientist. Before joining RISE I thought I wanted to go into medicine as a physician. However, as time passed during my undergraduate journey, I began to become increasingly more interested in science research (particularly drug discovery and development) rather than medicine. Hopefully after grad school I’ll work on drug discovery and development/therapeutics in industry or move forward into a PhD program.
How did Drew help you move toward these plans?
The RISE program taught me fundamental skills to be a scientist working in the lab, tools that helped me in grad school applications and will be applied throughout my academic journey. The program was crucial in helping me create connections between what I’ve learned in my classes at Drew and the real world.
My faculty mentors helped me get to where I am today. Without their help and guidance I wouldn’t have been able to be where I am today professionally.
