Pedro Pillot C’13, T’16 on his Journey Through Drew University

An early calling to ministry led him to the CLA and the Theological School

July 2024 – When Pedro Pillot C’13, T’16 was in high school, he knew he eventually wanted to earn a master’s degree from Drew Theological School—which led him to Drew University as an undergraduate student.

“I had planned from the beginning to enter the Theological School, so it was actually my interest in the Theological School that put the College of Liberal Arts on my radar,” said Pillot.

Pillot, a comparative religion major with a minor in Middle East studies, believes the liberal arts education he earned at Drew as an undergraduate prepared him well to earn his Master of Divinity at the Theological School. “The College of Liberal Arts provided me with a well-rounded education that allowed me to excel in the Theological School,” he said.

Today, Pillot is a member of the clergy of the United Methodist Church (UMC), currently serving as pastor at First UMC of Blairstown, New Jersey.

At First UMC, Pillot focuses on meeting the needs of the community and welcoming young families. He oversees the First UMC food pantry, one of five church-run food pantries that take turns distributing food weekly to the local community. First UMC food pantry serves upwards of 50 households, representing more than 150 people, with the ability to accommodate special dietary needs through volunteer outreach.

Pillot has reintroduced Sunday school to the community and created a designated space for families with young children to worship, called prayground.

“Drew University exposed me to a diverse student body which has helped me to serve diverse communities,” said Pillot.
