Gamma chapter noted for steady flow of dedicated members focused on diversity
September 2024 – Drew University’s Gamma Chapter of the Phi Beta Kappa Society has received the organization’s Outstanding Chapter Award.
One of only six out of 293 chapters across the country to receive the honor, Drew’s chapter was singled out for excelling “in having cultivated a steady cadre of resident members.”
At the ceremony, Drew’s chapter was noted for its “efforts to build visibility and engage in discussions relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion.”
“It is a privilege to recognize these outstanding chapters for their unwavering commitment to the values of Phi Beta Kappa,” said Phi Beta Kappa Secretary and CEO Frederick M. Lawrence. “Their innovative programs, strong campus presence, and dedication to inclusive excellence have profoundly impacted their institutions.”
Drew’s recognition comes within an already exclusive group. Only 10 percent of the nation’s universities have a Phi Beta Kappa chapter. The students invited to be a part of the society are even more exceptional, with requirements including maintaining a GPA of 3.7 or higher, taking a wide range of arts and science courses, and being proficient in both a second language and math.
