Advantage Arts
Academics
Apply to be a mentor.
Each year, a group of undergraduate college or recent graduates is selected to work with Advantage Arts as mentors.
We are a college readiness, academic enrichment, safe haven, inclusive program using the discipline of the arts—mainly theater—to get you there.

ADVANTAGEARTS is a partnership between Drew University and Arts High and People’s Prep in Newark, NJ. Drew faculty, with the help of Drew student theatre mentors, facilitate the high school students’ learning of theatrical skills and guide them in the process of creating and producing original plays. Drew students gain invaluable leadership and mentoring experiences while high school participants grow and learn new skills.
The program meets throughout the academic school year. We also provide field trips, workshops, and high impact experiences to provide college readiness. These include support for applying to college, rehearsing for auditions and interviews, and more.
A Child’s Place
During the summer 2016 AdvantageArts program, students wrote an original play titled A Child’s Place, with help from Drew faculty. The piece dissects life in Newark through a mix of songs, poems, prose and dance.
