Each year, a group of undergraduate college or recent graduates is selected to work with Advantage Arts as mentors. The mentors are chosen on the basis of their strong academic records, their strength as leaders and their prior experience with our program. The mentors attend classes and events with the AdvantageArts students, share meals with them, and live with them in the residence halls. Throughout the week, in formal and informal settings, the mentors work with Advantage Arts students on a theatre production. Mentors specialize in particular areas such as acting, directing, set design, lighting design, sound design, props, costume, and make-up design, stage management, choreography/dance, writing and theatre research—and they train AdvantageArts students in these areas. Mentors also talk with the visiting students about their experience on campus and help the student shape their own college plans and aspirations.
