Health & Safety
Campus Life
CARES Act
The Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act established the Higher Education Relief Fund that sends money to schools to use as emergency financial aid grants to students for expenses related to the disruption of campus operations due to the pandemic.
We want to keep you healthy, safe and happy while you pursue your education. Our health and public safety professionals are here whether you have a the sniffles or a more serious emergency. You’ll feel just as safe and cared for at Drew as you did back home.
Morris Health Center
Open Monday through Friday during the school year, the Health Center is nationally accredited and well-equipped. We have a board-certified staff at the ready, plus an on-site laboratory.
Come on in if you need help with illnesses, injuries, allergy shots, prescriptions, gynecological services, immunizations, smoking cessation, and counseling (at our McClintock Center for Counseling and Psychological Services), . We can assist with all this and more—and provide referrals for anything we can’t.
The Drew University Health Service also posts notices of health concerns springing up around campus and provides wellness education. We make sure you know what you need to stay healthy.
Rest assured—you’re in good, state- and federally-certified hands.
Campus Security
The Department of Campus Security staff provides 24-hours-a-day service to the Drew community, 365 days a year. Security is provided by officers from SSC, a contract security provider. All security officers are registered with the State of New Jersey having completed the Security Officer Registration Act (S.O.R.A.) which is required by the State. They are under the direction of Richard Wall.
Campus Security is built on a student-centered focus recognizing the needs of our community in a shared residential, living-learning community. Campus security team members are educators and community builders.
As the campus also falls under the jurisdiction of the Madison Police Department, we work in close cooperation with the Madison Police concerning certain criminal investigations, traffic accidents or other police matters. Under the direction of Chief Darren Dachisen, cooperation between the Madison Police Department and the University is consistently excellent. Uniform crime reporting and criminal investigations are handled by the Madison Police Department.
Smoke & Tobacco Free Campus
Drew University is a smoke, tobacco and nicotine free campus.
The Drew University Smoke, Tobacco and Nicotine Free Campus Policy is effective January 1, 2021. Drew prohibits smoking, use of any tobacco and/or nicotine products, and the use of any electronic delivery system (e.g., vaping). This policy applies to all indoor and outdoor Drew spaces including, but not limited to, all University academic and administrative buildings, residence halls, and other buildings, sidewalks, parking lots, recreational areas, and athletic venues, as well as in other outdoor areas owned, operated, leased, or controlled by the University, in all owned and leased University vehicles, and at Drew-sponsored off-campus activities and events.
The purpose of the Drew University Smoke, Tobacco and Nicotine Free Campus Policy is to promote a culture of wellness, and to protect the public health and welfare of the Drew community. Drew recognizes and supports the findings of the Surgeon General of the United States that tobacco use in any form, active and/or passive, is a significant health hazard. Drew further acknowledges that environmental tobacco smoke has been classified as a Group 1 carcinogen, and that any exposure to tobacco and/or nicotine smoke is hazardous.
