October 2023 – Drew University Associate Professor of Sociology and Civic Engagement Susan Rakosi Rosenbloom has received a Friend of the League Award from the League of Women Voters of Morris County.
The award stems from Rakosi Rosenbloom’s collaboration to bring the New Jersey District 11 Congressional Debate to campus. Rakosi Rosenbloom also spearheaded efforts to organize voting registration and voter outreach on campus.
“Drew students had an important role in the campus debate,” said Rakosi Rosenbloom.
“Two emceed the event and another group submitted and chose the questions posed to the candidates. The League of Women Voters wants to appeal to a younger population, and Drew hosting the debate and our students being active participants helped them have that input,” said Rakosi Rosenbloom.
This semester, Rakosi Rosenbloom is partnering with the League of Women Voters to teach Drew students to implement the organization’s Energizing Young Voters curriculum in local middle schools.
“Middle school teachers and students get assistance from Drew students and the League of Women Voters to apply innovative new civics lessons that help them respond to the new state mandate Laura Wooten’s law,” explained Rakosi Rosenbloom. “Meanwhile, Drew students get training and work with experienced civic leaders.”
