A revitalization for the 4+1 software engineering program partnership
April 2024 – Drew University has partnered with Stevens Institute of Technology to provide Drew students with an opportunity to pursue a 4+1 Dual-Degree in software engineering.
The program will launch in the fall 2024 semester, joining a roster of 17 other Dual-Degrees with schools like Columbia, Duke, NYU, and Washington University in St. Louis, and within Drew’s Caspersen School of Graduate Studies and Drew Theological School.
Upon graduating with the bachelor of science in computer science or cybersecurity, Drew undergraduates will be able to complete the Stevens master of science in software engineering degree in just one year.
Students will spend four years at Drew and one year at Stevens at their campus in Hoboken, New Jersey.
Stevens will also maintain a fellowship of $10,000 for each qualifying Drew student enrolled in this program.
The program is a revitalization of a previous 4+1 Dual-Degree program with Stevens.
“Drew’s updated partnership with Stevens provides a great option for our computer science and cybersecurity majors who want to pursue software engineering at the post-graduate level,” said Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science Steve Kass.
The Dual-Degree in software engineering program allows students to build a strong foundation in software creation through the inception, design and build, and testing and maintenance phases. The program combines a deep understanding in software engineering principles and practices with application to a series of increasingly complex systems challenges drawn from the real world.
Students will be equipped with advanced knowledge in software architecture, project management, technical planning, risk management, and software assurance—areas that are essential in implementing and overseeing software-intensive projects of high technical complexity.
