Earthquake Update, 4/5/24

Dear Drew community,

Thank you to our Facilities, Campus Security and Residential Life teams who have inspected all of the Drew University buildings after the earthquake we experienced this morning. We’ve fixed the minor issues that were found; there were no major issues to report.

We remain in contact with the Morris County Office of Emergency Management. The U.S. Geological Survey indicates that there is a chance of an aftershock with a magnitude of 3 or higher within a week of the initial impact, so please remain informed and ready for any further seismic activity.

In the event of an earthquake, you should get on your hands and knees, shelter under a sturdy table or desk, if possible, or go to an interior wall away from windows. More information can be found on the Red Cross website.

Should you notice anything of concern, please contact Campus Security at 973-408-3379 or via the LiveSafe app.

Thanks to Professor Robert Murawski for sharing seismometer readings with us that show how close Drew is to the epicenter and the magnitude.

Please remain weather aware and be safe!
