Shelter Exhibit at Drew Captures 18th Century Farmhouse

Photographs by Stephen Gilbert, son of beloved professor Norma Gilbert.

April 2019 – Photographer Steven Gilbert has filled Drew University’s Korn Gallery with ten of his images.

Using stark forms of light and texture in wood and stone, the portfolio aims to capture the spirit of a simple, small farmhouse built on the eve of the American Revolution and still standing in northeastern Connecticut.

In 2016, Gilbert created the Norma Gilbert Junior Professorship in Mathematics to honor his mother, a math pioneer who taught at Drew for 25 years, chaired the math department in the 1970’s and wrote a best-selling statistics textbook.

Here’s a closer look at the exhibit, which was curated by Professor Raymond Saá Stein.
