The Center for Academic Excellence (CAE) is pleased to offer both in-person and online tutoring.  We are a free, student-friendly resource for all Drew University undergraduates and graduate students. If you are looking for subject tutoring, writing support, or academic coaching, use the CAE’s scheduling system, WCOnline.

Types of Academic Support

Subject Tutoring

The CAE offers subject tutoring for courses across all the majors offered by Drew University. The CAE employs many Drew students who have demonstrated academic excellence and good communication skills as tutors to help their fellow students. If you need help understanding concepts for a specific course, peer subject tutoring might be for you!

The precise courses for which we offer subject tutoring changes each semester depending on tutor availability. You can see which courses for which we offer subject tutoring at WCOnline by logging in and searching through the “Limit to:” drop-down list.

If your class is not available at this time and you need assistance, you can fill out our Tutor Request Form.

INTO STUDENTS: PLEASE REVIEW THE POLICY REGARDING TUTORING IN THE CENTER FOR ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE FOR INTO STUDENTS HERE BEFORE MAKING AN APPOINTMENT.

Writing Support

The UWC offers one-on-one guidance for writing across disciplines at any stage in the writing process to all Drew University students in the College of Liberal Arts, the Caspersen School of Graduate Studies, and the Theological School. Our mission is to support students to ensure their development as readers, critical thinkers, and writers so that they may succeed at Drew and beyond.

All appointments are scheduled through  https://drew.mywconline.com/ . Select the UNIVERSITY WRITING CENTER schedule from the drop-down menu. Questions? Email [email protected].

Academic Coaching

While subject tutoring focuses on helping students understand a specific subject, academic coaching helps students cultivate general academic skills. While almost all subject tutoring draws slightly on some of the kinds of skills related to academic coaching, academic coaches specialize in helping students grow in broad academic skills such as the following:

  • Time Management and Overcoming Procrastination
  • Organization
  • Goal Setting
  • Study Skills
  • Note Taking
  • Test Preparation

To meet with an academic coach, login to WCOnline, then select “ACADEMIC COACHING” in the “Limit to:” drop-down list. Drew’s Theology program has its own academic coach who provides more specified support to Theology students. Select “THEO ACADEMIC COACHING” to find a Theo coach.

The CAE’s academic coaching program also offers regular workshops that help students improve their academic skills. Each workshop lasts an hour, is free, and is open to all Drew students. Visit the CAE’s Events page to see the scheduled workshops. Unless otherwise stated, workshops do not require registration.
